Warriors Beach Team Turn Heads in Siesta Key
Bookmark and Share
Siesta Key, Fla. - Making its first Dig the Beach Series tournament appearance, the Webber Beach Team made enormous strides in the sport of beach volleyball over at the white sand beaches of Siesta Key.

With one stop down in their summer tour, the Lady Warriors were hungry to win this weekend.  Saturday the women took to the beach in several divisions. Caitlin Hall and Kristina Reeves placed 1st in the A division, Tammy Needham and Alicia Mohler placed 2nd in the AA division, and Ashley Naughton and Trisha Belcher placed 3rd in the AAA division.

Sunday proved to be a tremendous day for Ashley Naughton.  She and her coed partner placed 2nd in the Open division of the tournament.  They faced a tough challenge in their semi-final match as they competed against Bruno Lunardi, a 6'6" daunting beach player and defensive wall at the net.  Naughton and her coed partner managed to beat the beast with precision play and incredible hustle.  That hustle finally caught up with Naughton in the finals as they lost to a feisty pair of coeds from Fort Myers, FL.

This stop of the Dig the Beach series was a US Open qualifier. Winners in each of the divisions (AA, A, BB, B) received FREE ENTRY into the US Open and Oakley sunglasses.  Caitlin Hall and Krisitina Reeves were awarded these prices and are now set to play in the US Open in Manhattan Beach, CA on September 25-27, 2009.

"We want to congratulate our Lady Warriors for another exceptional performance on the beach," said Jose Ramos, Assistant Volleyball Coach.
