St. Augustine, Fla. – The Webber International University men’s tennis team let one slip away yesterday, (Wednesday, February 10th), in St. Augustine where they were hosted by Flagler College.
The Warriors swept the doubles, taking a 3-0 lead going into the singles. Winning 8-6 at #1 doubles were the tandem of Rafael Teixeira and Caio Cardoso. At #2 doubles the pair of Philippe Andermatt and Juuso Tapanainen won 8-6. The #3 doubles team Heikki Riikonen and Tyler Heath fell behind 3-0, but rallied for an 8-3 victory.
Unfortunately, for the Warriors, the singles went Flagler’s way. They swept all six singles matches, winning the team match, 6-3.
“Flagler was very strong with their singles line-up, but our team has to remember that when a very good team is down, they are very dangerous, and we have to be mentally tougher and up the level of our game in response,” stated Coach Bill Heath.
The Warriors will be playing Savannah College of Art & Design on the WIU Campus Courts at 1:30p.m. on Saturday, February 13th.
