Webber Tennis Nets Big Win

Babson Park, Fla. – The Webber International University men's tennis team garnered a huge win over Savannah College of Art & Design on the WIU Campus Courts on Saturday in Babson Park.
The Warriors won 8-1, improving their record to 2-0 in The Sun Conference. Webber is 2-2 overall, both losses come to ranked NCAA-II schools. SCAD is 0-1 on the season.
The doubles duo of Tyler Heath and Jonnas Jalkenen started it off for the Warriors with an 8-1 win at number 3 doubles. Philippe Andermatt and Juuso Tapaneinen followed with a 9-8 win, 7-2 in the tiebreaker, at number 2 doubles. Completing the doubles sweep was Rafael Teixeira and Caio Cardoso at number one doubles with a 9-8 victory, winning the tiebreaker 7-5.
Marcel Schmitt, playing his first varsity match, put the Warriors up 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at number 6 singles. Clinching the match for the Warriors getting the fifth point, was Tyler Heath, with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number 5 singles.
Other singles winners for Webber were: Rafael Teixeira with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 win at number one; Philippe Andermatt at number 2 singles 2-6, 7-5, 10-6; Caio Cardoso with an impressive 7-5, 6-2, win at number 3 singles.
The Warriors number 4 singles player Juuso Tapaneinen lost a heart breaker 7-6 (6), 3-6, 20-18.
The Warriors will be in action again on Friday, February 19th, at 10:30 a.m. in Miami Gardens where they will play St. Thomas University, ranked 13th in the nation in the NAIA.
The WIU men's junior varsity team will be making their debut this Wednesday. The JV play at Ave Maria University on Wednesday, February 17th, at 1p.m.
