WIU Bowlers Are Champions of the Hoosier Classic

The Masking Unit Which Will Hang In Every Future Hoosier Classic
Indianapolis – On Sunday afternoon, in the 41st annual Hoosier Classic, the Webber International University Men’s bowling team won the most prestigious collegiate tournament of the regular season, defeating 69 other universities. 
 
The tournament featured six games of team bowling on a 37 foot pattern on Saturday and three additional games on Sunday morning on a demanding 41 foot flat pattern.
 
After qualifying, WIU moved to 2nd after finishing 3rd on day one of the event. WIU sat second behind defending champion Wichita State University.
 
In the best-of-five match play Baker finals, the # 2 seeded Warriors were undefeated in three matches to earn the title. In the quarter-finals, WIU faced # 7 seeded Morehead (200-184, 197-184, 228-136). Next, Webber faced # 6 McKendree winning (191-155, 233-163, 202-182). In the final match, WIU faced # 8 seed Robert Morris (IL) and won in straight games (192, 216-168, 187, 161).

This is the fourth title of the season for Webber International which includes two Tier I wins and two Tier II wins. WIU also had a second place at the Brunswick Coca-Cola Southern Classic, a Tier I.  
 
Andro Simonet and Marcelo Suartz earned All-Tournament honors. Andro averaged 229.3 for the 9 games and Marcelo 226.2.

The weekend started off with Javier Diaz winning the sweeper Friday night with Larry Brande second. 160 collegiate bowlers participated in the sweeper.
