Babson Park, Fla. – The Warriors tennis team could not pull off the upset in Miami Gardens on Friday. The Bobcats of St. Thomas University, ranked #13 in the nation in the NAIA, held off the Warriors 6-3.
After doubles play, the Warriors found themselves in a hole, down 2-1. Webber did win at #2 doubles, 8-6, as senior Philippe Andermatt and Juuso Tapaneinen pulled out a hard fought win. The Warriors duo of Teixeira and Cardoso fell 8-2 at number one and Heath and Joonas Jalkenen dropped #3, 8-4.
Things did not improve for WIU in the singles matches, losing the top 3 matches and allowing the Bobcats to clinch the win. Juuso Tapaneinen had an impressive 6-0, 6-3 win at #4 singles and freshman Tyler Heath won his second consecutive match at #5 singles with a 1-6, 6-0, Ret. (Default) match score.
The Warriors fall to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in The Sun Conference, and are now ranked #15 in the nation in NAIA.
“We did not come out and play the game like I know we can but St. Thomas deserves a lot of credit for playing a solid match,” stated Coach
