Late Inning Rally Lifts Warriors Over Lions

Miami, Fla. – The Webber baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Lions of Florida Memorial University 5-2 in their opening conference game of the 2010 season.
After a scoreless five innings, the Lions broke though and scored two runs on ball hit to left field that the Warriors left fielder dove for and missed. The lead was short lived as the Warriors scored two in the top of the sixth. Tito Carrillo drove in a run with a triple and scored on a Brett Book single. The Warriors then score three runs in the ninth inning as Carrillo and Book both singled and Carlo Galluccio followed with a bunt single to load the bases. Carrillo then scored on a pass ball and Darin Jones singled to drve in two.
Book led the way for Webber picking up three hits and scoring a run. Ryan Jamison, reigning The Sun Conference Player of the Week, continued to swing a hot bat collecting three more hits. Shawn Mayhew, Jones and Carrillo all had two hits in the contest.
The most recent Pitcher of the Week for The Sun Conference, Will Arnold (2-0) had another strong outing picking up the win, as he tossed eight innings allowing just two runs, one of which was earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts. Chris Kirk then came on in the ninth to get his first save of the year.
The Warriors are now 6-2 overall and 1-0 in The Sun Conference and will face off again tomorrow against the Lions in a doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
