Babson Park, Fla. – The Webber Warriors tennis team defeated the #25 team in the nation for the second consecutive day.

How? When WIU played Aquinas on Tuesday, they were ranked #25th in the NAIA. The new poll was released that same day at 5:30 p.m. and Aquinas was out of the top 25 and Olivet Nazarene was the new #25 team in the nation.

Webber played Olivet Nazarene Wednesday afternoon on the WIU Campus Courts. WIU defeated Olivet Nazarene (IL) 5-4 in the battle of two determined teams.

“This has been a rather intense two days for us, as the two teams have played both very good and we wear a target on our back every time we play someone ranked below us,” stated Coach Bill Heath.

Webber took the lead 2-1 after doubles play. Philippe Andermatt and Caio Cardoso won at #1, 8-3. Winning the #3 doubles was Juuso Tapaneinen and Thiago Marion, 8-1.

The singles were split 3-3. The three WIU players that won in singles were: #2 Philippe Andermatt, 6-2, 6-1; #3 Juuso Tapaneinen, 6-2, 6-2; and #4 Caio Cardoso, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Webber has now won seven matches in a row to improve to 9-3 on the season. Thursday's match with McKendree (MO) was canceled due to rain.

The Warriors will be in action on Saturday at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando. WIU will play Bethel University (MN) at 10:30 a.m.
