Babson Park, Fla. - Tyler Hoevenaar of Webber International University is The Sun Conference male nominee for the Emil S. Liston Award. Mr. Liston was the first executive secretary of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the prime mover behind the men’s basketball tournament. The award is presented annually to a junior men’s and women’ basketball player who has shown athletic and scholastic achievement.
Selection for this award is based on scholarship, character, and playing ability. Scholarship is determined by an overall GPA of at least of 3.75 (on a 4.00 scale). Character, leadership, and citizenship is demonstrated by five letters of recommendation. Tyler received letters from the athletic director, faculty athletic representative, vice president of student life, Dr. Wade (president of Webber and The Sun Conference), and a member of faculty.
Tyler has been involved in many community service actives. He has volunteered feeding the hungry, raised money for cancer research, collected toy for needy children at Christmas time, and visited Katrina victims in New Orleans.
Tyler’s nomination has been forward to the NAIA National Office where he will be competing with nominees from the remaining 25 conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The national award recipients’ institutions shall be notified by the chair of the NAIA Council of Faculty Athletic Representatives later in the month.
