Babson Park, Fla. – The Webber International men’s tennis team defeated Ohio Northern 8-1 at Sandlando Park in Altamonte Springs on Thursday.
The Warriors improve to 5-3 on the season and Ohio Northern University drop to 2-2.
“This is a good win for us, as Ohio Northern is a well coached team, plays great doubles, and is always a solid NCAA-III program,” stated Coach Bill Heath. “We enjoy playing them each year,” added Heath.
The Warriors swept the singles after being up 2-1 after the completion of doubles. Singles winners were: #1 Rafael Teixeira, 6-1, 6-2; #2 Philippe Andermatt, 6-2, 6-3; #3 Caio Cardoso, 6-2, 6-2; #5 Marcel Schmitt, 6-3, 7-6(3) #6 Joonas Jalkenen 6-3, 7-6(3).
Doubles winners for the Warriors were: #2 Andermatt and Tapaneinen, 8-6; #3 Schmitt and Tyler Heath, 8-3.
The Warriors will host U. of St. Francis (IN) on the WIU Campus Courts in an important NAIA match. Competition starts at 1p.m.
