BABSON PARK, Fla. – The men's and women's track and field teams will begin their quest towards a conference championship as they head to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Sunday to take part in The Sun Conference championships.
The event will take place on Sunday and Monday, with the prelims on Sunday along with a few of the field events and the finals will be on Monday. The Warriors look to improve on last year's performances as both the men and women were crowned runner-up at the championships.
On the women's side the Warriors will be led by seniors Sarah Long, Anna Wallace and redshirt junior Juline Brice. Last year long was unable to complete the meet due to injury, but she is currently ranked second in the conference in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash.
Last year Wallace scored a total of 33 points at the championships as she competed in six different events. Heading into the championships Wallace is currently ranked second in the 100m hurdles, third in the triple jump, fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 100m dash.
Last year Brice didn't compete at the championship due to injuries, but she is scheduled to compete in the 800m, 1500m, 5,000m, 10,000m and both the 4x400m relay and the 4x800m relay.
On the men's side the Warriors will be led by a stellar group of sprinters, a monstrous throwing corp. and a select few distance runners who will be very instrumental in the Warriors quest of winning a championship.
Going into the championships the Warrior sprinters have four of the top ten times in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash. The 4x100m relay team is ranked number one, with the 4x800m relay team ranked fourth. The Warrior throwers have four athletes ranked in the top ten in the shot put, discus, and javelin.
In the Jumps Joshua Perkins is currently ranked first in the triple jump, with Michael Brun being ranked sixth and second in the long jump.
Senior Josh Sanker and Junior Levi Fleming are ranked fifth and sixth respectively in the pole vault.
