MARION, IND. – As the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships began Thursday, the Warriors wasted no time getting to work. By the close of business, two individuals and the men’s 4x100m relay team moved one step closer to racing for All-American honors.
The men’s 4x100m relay team of James Campbell, David Hunter, Steven McGinley, and Malcolm Solomon placed second in their opening heat. The foursome are currently ranked seventh heading into the semi-finals, having run a season’s best time of 40.98 seconds. The semi finals of the 4x100m relay are slated to begin at 4:05 PM Friday afternoon.
David Hunter also competed in the prelims of the 200m dash. Hunter raced his way into the semi-finals (3:30PM Saturday) after running a lifetime best and new school record time of 21.31 seconds.
Leading the way for the Lady Warriors was Sarah Long as she competed in the prelims of the 100m dash and the 200m dash, where she ran 11.89 seconds in the 100m and set a new school record and a lifetime best. In the 200m dash Long ran 24.79 seconds, after placing fourth in her respective heat. Long qualified for the semi-finals in both events. The semi-finals of the 100m dash are scheduled for Friday at 2:40 PM. and the 200m dash semi-final is scheduled for Saturday at 3:20 PM.
All-American Juline Brice competed in the semi-finals of the 1500m run. Brice’s time of 4:44.95, barely missed the time needed to advance to the finals. Brice will also compete in the 5,000m run on Friday and the event is slated to begin at 6:40 PM.
The only Warrior not to open competition was Jonathan Mott who will be competing in the marathon which is scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 6 AM.
