Sunday Beach Finals in Santa Barbara

6/1/2010 11:58:56 AM

Babson Park, Fla. - After being wished good luck from gold medalist Misty May, Webber approached Sunday with a renewed sense of energy and spirit.

The girl's first match was nothing different from what they had faced all weekend another top Division I NCAA team UCSB who approached them prior to the match asking them where Webber was. This was a question both coach and the players were used to facing all weekend but they were all proud to be the underdog school from the opposite coast making its way through California's powerhouse teams.

The girls knew that this win would take them into the semi-finals and increase their cut in a $5,000 cash prize, split amongst the top six teams. After making up for lost sleep on Friday night Noelle Bay seemed to be doing better.   Still lacking nutrition she told Coach Edfors as well as teammate Trisha Belcher that she was going to give her all.

After another phenomenal battle the Warriors came out victorious once again by sending another California team packing. The next match scheduled was the semi- finals where the Warriors faced off against undefeated LMU (Loyola Marymount). Loyola's team consisted of a 6'1 outside hitter who has spent the last 2 years playing pro in Switzerland as well as 6'2” right side who has been playing on the national team, both girls with AVP experience.

Before the 10am start time camera crews were out in full force and AVP announcer, Chris Geeter McGee, began to build crowd energy. With cameras close the teams nerves rose and head Coach Tim Edfors did his best to settle his players. Loyola had already taken a steady lead before the Warriors began to settle but still continued to play timid according to Coach Edfors.

For every point the Warriors scored the Loyola team would score two back giving Webber their second and final loss. Loyola went on to win the tournament against the Warriors only other loss Delaware. All in all the girls had a phenomenal weekend building a reputation for Webber beach volleyball from coast to coast.

“We came in as the underdogs and made it to the semis, I'll take that” stated Noelle Bay.   She continues to say “I wonder what it would have been like to play at 100% health but my partner really stepped up and I'm proud of what we came here to do and proud that now everyone knows who Webber is.”
