Babson Park, Fla. – Webber International University is looking to expand the size of its Cheerleading Squad. WIU has advanced cheer to a varsity sport and is currently a Competitive Cheer Team at the NAIA level.
“Competitive Cheer and Dance is now an emerging sport within the NAIA,” stated Athletic Director, Bill Heath. “In fact, the NAIA will be sponsoring a National Invitational this year for Competitive Cheer and Dance, and that is a great step forward as this sport is rapidly moving towards a National Championship sport,” added Heath.
“We would like to expand the role of our cheerleaders by having more pep rallies on campus, utilizing them as host or hostesses for various events that we hold and having them on the sidelines for some of our soccer and volleyball matches,” said Heath.
“We understand that not every person that desires to participate in cheerleading wants to compete and we want them to be able to come here and cheer and enjoy their experience during their college life, but we also want to accommodate those that do have a desire to compete and that is why we are looking to expand our program,” stated Heath.
Cheerleading is a co-ed sport at Webber. Partial athletic scholarships are available and can be combined with other types of financial aid.
