Lake Wales, Fla. – As predicted by Victory Sports Network, the Warriors of Webber International University, defeated the University of Virginia's College at Wise, Saturday afternoon, August 28th, 30-10, at Legions Field in beautiful Lake Wales.
Opening the first quarter with a touchdown, the Warriors took the first lead of the game over the Cavilers', 7-0. While entering the second quarter the Warriors quickly added to their lead kicking a 20 yard good field goal, by
Mason Prater, extending their lead 10-0. After turning over on downs, the Cavilers' answered back, putting their first set of points on the board, with a 29 yard good field goal by, Allen Owens.
As the Webber defense continued to force UVa-Wise to turn the ball over in downs; the Webber offense continued putting points on the board. In the third quarter, the Warriors put an additional 13 points on the board, to take their biggest lead of the game, 23-3.
Entering into the last fifteen minutes of the game, UVa-Wise scored their lone touchdown of the game, from a 12 yard touchdown pass from, Nick Leftwish to Michel Steele. But the Warriors wasted no time answering back, as quarterback
Torrance Moise, rushed 91 yards for yet another Warrior touchdown, allowing the Warriors walked away with a home season opener win over the University of Virginia's College at Wise, 30-10.
Jamal Rodman led the Warriors with 9 receptions for 75 yards, and Nick Gugilielmello had 7 for 75 yards. Moise rushed 8 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns, as well as,
Deonte Fielder and
Taylor Atwood rushing 7 times and both with a touchdown on the day.
Warriors quarterback,
Torrance Moise was 17-29 for 190 yards and one interception on the day.
Senior, Yannick Brown, led the Warriors defensively with 7 tackles and sack, and
Steven Willis and
Ricky Carlson collecting 5 tackles a piece.
The Warriors take the field again next weekend, Saturday, September 4th, at 1:30pm, as they host the Tigers, of Georgetown University, at Legion Field.
