Dawkins qualifies, Day two at Embry Riddle Spikes Classic

Babson Park, Fla.- Day one of the Embry Riddle spikes classic brought some great results for Webber.  The Lady Warriors picked up two new school records and the men added another. Day two was filled with personal records and a national qualifier; as the women finished 4th overall and the men were 10th.

Freshman pole-vaulter Allyssia Raines broke her own record soaring 9'5"(2.90m) and finished 6th of 14 competitors.  Junior distance runner, Lauren Nygren crossed the finish line in 3rd place in route to shattering her school record in the 3k steeple chase in a time of 11:56.34.  Lauren also placed 4th in the 800 meter run with the time 2:20.31.

Junior sprinter Breann Smith along with sophomore Shakeria Wilson and a pair of freshman Kathi Whitfield and Artisha Dawkins all qualified for the 100m finals on day two of competition.  Dawkins and Smith also qualified to run in the 200m finals.  Smith crossed the line in 2nd and placed behind Wisconsin's Kimberley Azie in the 100 meter finals. Dawkins was 6th, Whitfield was 10th and Wilson was 13th.  Freshman thrower Shanquane'k Scott continued her success in the throws as she made the finals in the shot put, discus. The freshman thrower won the shot put with a throw of 38' and was 5th in the discus. The 4x100m relay team of Dawkins, Smith, Whitfield, and Dennard finished fourth in a time of 49.26. High jumpers Rachel Fredrick (2nd), Amanda Stoll (4th), and Quantavia Stalworth (7th) competed well in the high jump and scored for the Lady Warriors. Charrie Dennard finished 4th in the triple jump leaping 36'5¾" and 8th in the long jump (16'11") respectively.  

Freshman distance runner, Brennan Schmick set a personal record and broke former Warrior, Danny Mejia's 1500m school record of 4:02 that was set in 2005.  Schmick ran the 1500 meter race in a time of 3:59.93 and was good for third overall. Freshman long sprinter Eric Mejias made the finals of the 100m and ran a personal record (48.86) for 5th place in the 400m. Christopher Hudson finished third in the long jump (22') and 6th in the triple jump.

The Warrior's next meet will be the UT Distance carnival at the University of Tampa in Tampa, FL. April 12. This meet contains running events only. Competition starts at 4pm.
